We are the Martin and Pearson Families and we are hosting this GoFundMe for our dear friend, Karen Downing, who has spent the last 11 years in Nicaragua training pastors and leaders in Jesus Centered Trauma Recovery with the goal of equipping them and then letting them take the lead for their community and culture.

Karen has met her goal and for the last year she has been preparing for her move back to the states. She'll be moving to Indiana where she has family. Our families wanted to put together this GoFundMe to help her raise funds for her move back. She's been saving and planning for this move, but she's faced a number of financial set backs and needs help with re-entry. She shares more details of her experience below.

Buen Dia

My name is Karen Downing. I have been training pastors and leaders in Nicaragua for 11 years in Jesus Centered Trauma Recovery with the intent to equip them and then let them take the lead for their community and culture.

As some of you know, I am leaving Nicaragua and moving back to Indiana where I have family and hope to settle, long term. This decision has been in process for over a year and I’m reaching out to raise money for the move.

We have had many thefts from people to service providers and although we have been able to maintain housing, food and other essentials over the last four years, donations have been in decline I need help with costs related to re-entry.

My time here in Nicaragua has been very fulfilling and I’m leaving behind a solid group of pastors that will carry on the training of Jesus Centered Trauma Recovery and I will continue the Non-Profit. My plan is to proceed with the training with them via internet and visits to Nicaragua. Our intent is to expand and perfect the training to meet the cultural and spiritual needs of the people in Nicaragua and possibly beyond.

Although starting over AGAIN feels daunting, I am confident in Jesus to see me through. My adopted son, Eduardo has a green card application in process and he will join me as soon as he can.

I am needing funds for 3 months rent, a car, washer and dryer, airfare for me and our 3 animals and minimal household goods and groceries. The total amount I’d like to raise is $30,000.
