Help Karen Rebuild a Quiet Life After Survival
My name is Karen. I'm a retired law enforcement professional from New York, a mother of three,
and a survivor of narcissistic emotional abuse. I'm reaching out with humility and hope-asking for help returning to the U.S. and creating a safe, stable life.
Sadly, I had to humanely euthanize my beloved dog Bella. She has been by my side and such a comfort during so much. She’ll be making this journey with me in spirit. Some of her ashes will be placed where the ocean meets the sand and waves will carry her gently. Some will be mixed with soil to grow a plant in her memory.
How I Got Here:
Seven years ago, I traveled to Barbados after retiring-hoping to rest, heal, and open my heart to a new chapter. I had successfully raised three children as a single mother and spent my life in service.
I believed I had earned peace.
Instead, I entered a relationship that slowly stripped me of my financial independence, my emotional safety, and my connection to family and friends. Like many survivors of narcissistic abuse, I became
isolated-cut off from people who cared and encouraged me to leave sooner.
Through it all, I held on to hope and denial. Now, as I take the final steps to leave this life behind, I'm doing something I never imagined: I'm asking for help.
What I'm Facing:
I am working toward relocating back to the U.S. where I plan to live quietly, safely, and independently. Leaving behind nearly everything I own-bringing only three suitcases and my two cats, Max and Bud. Bella will be with me in spirit.
What I Need Help With:
- I am asking for help to raise $4000 which will go toward:
- First and last month's rent on a furnished 1-bedroom rental
- Basic moving and travel costs
- Essential supplies to rebuild my life
Why This Matters:
I'm not asking for luxury. I'm asking for dignity. A front porch. A quiet cup of coffee. A room where I
can breathe and feel safe. I'm asking for the chance to live the rest of my life not in fear, but in
peace and purpose.
Once I am resettled, I hope to volunteer at a local animal shelter-to give back in honor of Bella's love, and to serve again in a gentler way.
If you've known the ache of starting over... If you've loved and lost a dog who gave you strength
when you had none... If you've ever rebuilt your life one breath at a time... You already know me.
Thank you for reading my story. Thank you for seeing me.
With deep love,
Karen (and Bella)
