It is with heavy hearts that we share the heartbreaking news that Karen Burghardt has passed away following a sudden and severe medical emergency.
On Monday, November 11th, our world was turned upside down when Karen was rushed to UW Madison for a major health crisis. After enduring an eight-hour surgery to address what was believed to be an aneurysm, doctors discovered an aortic dissection—a tear in her aorta. They successfully repaired the tear and placed stents, but Karen faced numerous complications, requiring additional surgeries, dialysis, and ECMO support. Despite the incredible efforts of her medical team and Karen’s immense strength, she succumbed to her condition.
Now, we are faced with the difficult task of honoring Karen’s memory and managing her final expenses. We are seeking help to cover the cost of her cremation and funeral arrangements, as well as the medical bills that accrued during her fight. Additionally, we need to care for Karen’s beloved pets—her two cats, Kyle and Jackson, and her two dogs, Rudy and Tator. Ensuring their ongoing care, including medical needs like vaccinations and Tator’s neutering, is one of the ways we hope to honor Karen’s love for them.
Karen was a bright light in the lives of those who knew her—an incredibly kind and generous soul with a deep love for her family, friends, and animals. In this challenging time, we ask for your support in helping us honor her life and legacy.
Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference. Donations will go directly toward her cremation, outstanding medical bills, household expenses, and the care of her pets. If you are unable to donate, we would be so grateful if you could share this fundraiser and keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness and support during this incredibly painful time.
Thank you!
