Meet Karen. In September 2018, just five months after welcoming her youngest daughter, Johanna, into the world, Karen was diagnosed with cancer. Since that day, she has fought through years of chemotherapy, clinical trials, surgeries, and exhausting treatments with extraordinary courage and determination — all while raising her three young daughters as a single mother. Today, Karen is facing the most difficult chapter of her battle yet. Recent scans revealed that the cancer has continued to spread throughout her body, and her doctors have now placed her on an extremely aggressive chemotherapy treatment. The treatment itself carries serious risks, but without it, her options are devastatingly limited. Karen is preparing to lose her job and income in June while continuing to fight for more time with her girls. Her daughters — ages 8, 9, and 11 — are the center of her world and the reason she continues to fight every single day. In search of better support and specialized care, Karen recently relocated from Southern California to Northern California to be closer to family and a cancer treatment center, but the financial burden has become overwhelming. Between mounting medical expenses, housing costs, daily living needs, and caring for three young children, the challenges facing this family are immense. Those who know Karen know her as a loving mother, loyal friend, and deeply compassionate person who has continued to show grace and strength even in the face of unimaginable hardship.
