My name is Karen Sieber and I am a civil rights historian and professor of public history based in St. Paul, MN. I specialize in Black history, labor history, and women's history of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. A list of publications, exhibits, curriculum, documentaries, interviews and more can be found at www.ksieber.com.

My work on civil rights history, protest, and racial violence in U.S. history has been featured by the Library of Congress, American Historical Association, National Archives, Labor and Working Class History Association, Minnesota Historical Society, Smithsonian, PBS, and others. My work on Jim Crow Era violence and the Red Summer is included in AP African American Studies curriculum nationwide, and in documentaries like Tulsa 1921: An American Tragedy.

Three current projects are independently funded out of my own pocket, reaching millions annually but becoming increasingly expensive to upkeep: Visualizing the Red Summer; the Finding Moses Initiative; and plans for a Minnesota Civil Rights Trail. With drastic cuts to federal funding of public history and public humanities projects, and attacks against diversity, education, and inclusion, your support is more important now than ever. Staying independently funded allows me to combat calls for erasure and helps guarantee a more comprehensive history of the era can be told for generations to come.

Your donation supports research costs, outreach, web development, curriculum, hosting, domains, and more.
