Karen's Journey with Extraskeletal Osteosarcoma

In April 2024, Karen was diagnosed with Extraskeletal Osteosarcoma after noticing a lump in her upper thigh. This rare type of cancer led her to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester for treatment. Karen completed three weeks of radiation therapy in May/June and underwent surgery on July 16 to remove the tumor. Fortunately, the doctors are optimistic that the entire tumor was successfully removed, and scans indicated that the cancer hadn't spread.

Despite these positive developments, Karen's cancer is classified as 'high-grade,' meaning it is aggressive and has a high likelihood of recurrence. Given the nature of her cancer, Karen's Mayo doctors have supported the idea of seeking additional integrative care to complement her conventional treatment. They recognize the potential benefits of a comprehensive approach to support Karen's overall health and well-being.

To pursue this, Karen has started seeing Dr. Jeff Kotulski at Between the Bridges Healing Center in Mankato for integrative therapies. Unfortunately, these treatments are not covered by insurance and come with significant costs.

The financial burden, combined with the medical bills and expenses already incurred, feels overwhelming for Karen and Keith.
