Karen was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer with metastasis to the brain in 2025. In April, she suddenly lost neurological function for speech and the ability to move an entire side of her body. Thanks to a successful brain surgery, much of her functioning was restored, and months of targeted treatments to the tumors in her lungs and brain saw marked response. However, further metastasis to the colon was later discovered, requiring ongoing medical care. Karen is currently undergoing immunotherapy and working closely with her doctors to determine the best path forward.
For many years, Karen has been devoted to her work at the Camden County Library District. She continued working throughout her cancer treatments and recovery, which allowed her to maintain the medical insurance she needed for ongoing care. Unfortunately, her condition has recently made it impossible for her to continue working, and her medical insurance is ending on January 31st, 2026—at a time when she needs ongoing medical care and is also experiencing the loss of income from not being able to continue working. The loss of income and insurance has created a significant financial burden at a time when Karen needs ongoing medical care and support.
Karen is doing everything she can to apply for assistance programs, but these can take months or longer to come through, are never guaranteed, and do not cover every need. In the meantime, she could use support from friends, family, and the community. Karen has always selflessly given to others and never asks for help. Now, in her time of need, we are grateful for any support to lighten her load as she focuses on healing. Thank you for considering a donation to help Karen and our family during this difficult time.
