We're Friends of Karenni Education (FOKE), a group of Yale students raising money to support schools for Karenni refugees who have fled the conflict in Myanmar.
We financially support schools through:
- Scholarships for Karenni refugee students
- Emergency/Disaster Relief for affected schools
- Food/Hygiene/Medical Supplies for schools in need
- Educational Infrastructure, Supplies, and Projects, such as libraries, solar panels, wifi, school building materials, fundraisers, etc.
The money from this general fund will go into a U.S. bank account, then be allocated by our board to these educational purposes based on input from affected educational communities and the urgency of the need. We have a strong connection to the communities we support, perform due diligence on use of funds, and have a dedicated legal compliance officer who ensures all uses of funds are OFAC-Compliant and do not violate U.S. Sanctions on individuals from Myanmar. All activities are OFAC-Compliant under OFAC's Burma General License 3 for Executive Order 14014. All funds received from GoFundMe are used for the above educational purposes and no funds go to the fundraiser organizers or to any person or use not listed in the above educational purposes.
