Support Karene's Life-Changing Surgery

For those who don't know me, my name is Karene. To all my littles, I also go by Auntie KD, Ms. Karene, Titi Karene, and KiKi. I am a friend, sister, daughter, and Speech Pathologist. I sing, I laugh, I pray, I encourage, I mentor, and I love hard...real hard.

But I also hurt, I cry, I struggle, and I am at war with my body. This fundraiser is pure vulnerability as I ask for help in more ways than I'm normally comfortable doing. I'm stepping out of my comfort box because this is so important to me.

Born a cute little chunk chunk, I have struggled and fought with my weight my whole life. I have been on diets since elementary school and have yo-yo'd on every one since then. This war with weight is slowly winning as my body slows down with chronic pain, co-morbidities, and increased fatigue.

I NEED HELP. I have finally come to terms with my reality that medical intervention is crucial at this point in time. Before it's too late.

I am scheduled for the gastric sleeve surgery at the end of July 2024. I'm excited and nervous and confident all at once. Yay, right?!

But my insurance won't cover the procedure. The hospital facility where the surgery will take place in Miami, Florida will cost me $15,250 out of pocket. In addition, I will be out of work for two weeks, of which I don't have enough paid-time-off or vacation hours (thanks medical appointments). The rest of the contribution will make sure my daily bills will be covered.

I know. WHEW! This is a lot to write and a lot to ask. But I am faithful. I have faith that God has aligned my path in such a way to make it to this point, to mentally get out of my own way, to reach out to you all...

I'm confident that I will be able to move faster, breathe easier, sleep better, feel stronger... with the help of surgery.
