The morning of September 17, 2025 may have started as an ordinary day for Karen Trusley, but the following days and weeks would turn her world upside down. Late that evening after feeling increasingly unwell throughout the day, Karen went to the emergency room at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb. After extensive labs and scans, she received a preliminary diagnosis of ovarian cancer. In the following days she saw numerous physicians in Macomb and at the Springfield Clinic and was scheduled for surgery on October 8th. She spent the next 8 days at Memorial Hospital in Springfield. The devastating diagnosis of advanced ovarian cancer was confirmed. Her team of doctors developed a treatment plan and the process began. The plan involves months of chemotherapy and potentially another extensive surgery. The decision to continue her treatment in Springfield has led to numerous trips back-and-forth from Macomb for post-op care, an additional 3 days of hospitalization due to a complication of the cancer, consultations, additional testing and chemotherapy.
Karen has been unable to return to the job she loves as a guidance counselor at Macomb High School and also her part-time job as an event planner for a small local business. As a single parent of a high school senior, and now with the added continued travel expenses and medical bills coming in, this is an opportunity for those who can, to help ease some of the financial burden. Your contribution, no matter the size, will help support this deserving family and mean so much to them, as they continue on the long journey ahead.
On behalf of Karen, her daughter Karsyn, and her mother Bev Logan Trusley, we would like to extend our deep appreciation and gratitude to those of you who are able to contribute, and those who kindly share this page with others.
