Support Karen Murphy’s Care (Ms Chicago Blues News)

Hello. Karen's friends Lori Lewis & Terri Treiman here. You all know Karen from the Chicago Blues scene. She is the editor of Chicago Blues News. She is always found at any and every Blues event around Chicago and more with a camera in her hand, and her support and love of the Chicago Blues scene. Now it's time to help Karen.

This GoFundMe is being set up for Karen and her son, Brett Woodward, as he supports her in her medical crisis.

Karen suddenly became ill at the end of Sept as she returned from AZ and was hospitalized at Northwestern for 9 days with confusion. She is working with the Neurology team at Northwestern and has recently been discharged to a 24hr care facility. At present, there is a sudden and tremendous financial need to cover various expenses while finances and insurance are worked out to cover Karen's care. There are care expenses: Karen needs 24hr care at the moment, and a good portion of this is not covered by insurance. There are travel expenses and lost wages: Brett needs to travel between his home in AZ & Chicago to care for Karen while he is there for her and tries to get her financials, insurance, legal, household, etc. in order. Many incidentals that insurance does not cover with a sudden and serious illness. Brett will use these funds to bridge the gap so Karen can obtain the care she needs now.

We are hoping the Chicago Blues Community will come together to support Karen during this crisis. We thank you all in advance for your assistance.

Karen’s illness is progressing at a heartbreakingly rapid pace. She is mostly unresponsive at this point. She entered hospice care today. We continue to support her son Brett as he cares for her.
