Karen Murphy age 67 birth date 9/21/57.
My mother Karen Murphy, the mother of two children, Shawn Murphy and Naomi Kurz. With two granddaughters who have stood there beside her in her last days while she's still fights at the hospital.
Karen Murphy went in on a Thursday, August 14th for a lung biopsy at Cape Fear Valley for a visit to inspect her lungs to see if she had developed cancer. The day before she was walking, talking and even driving and still smoking her cigarettes even though she shouldn't have. Shortly after receiving just two biopsies from her lungs, she started bleeding in her lungs and ended up having a heart attack that lasted 17 minutes before her heart started again. And while her heart may have started again. Her soul and presence was no longer there. She had also suffered minor brain damage and the results from the biopsy for her lungs came back positive as cancer. She has had to spend the last 8 days on a ventilator, a feeding tube and life support with medication to try to keep her alive including antibiotics and other pain reducing medications. Even though she was taking off sedation just 48 hours later, she appears to have not had the ability to come back even with no sedation.
She is still in the hospital as of today, August 21st 2025. She is unconscious with no response to life and no stimulation or dilation in the eyes and no ability to move any part of her body willingly though she does have the ability to react spontaneously from her feet being tickled, but that is about the only response she has.
On Monday, August 25th 2025, I have to make the decision to either take everything off and let her naturally die or she will have to have a ventilator breathing tube, insert it in her throat and a a permanent feeding source in her tummy and she will continue to remain according to doctors in this unconscious unreceptive state of mind unable to interact with the world for the rest of her life. And even if she could make it through her lung cancer is severe enough that it would kill her within 6 months to 2 years because she can't receive any chemotherapy.
She had already beat cancer once and she had colon cancer and they removed all of her intestines and gave her a colostomy bag in order for her to use the restroom nearly 12 years ago. She didn't need chemo then because they were able to remove all of the cancer or at least they thought they did when they removed her intestines and she was cleared as cancer-free for nearly 12 years until now.
She was a brave woman and yeah she got on your nerve sometimes and she told her stories on repeat and explained to how hard her life was so many times over but she loved me. Love me and her grandkids and her best friend Deborah very much. She tried so hard to give as much as she could to people. Maybe it wasn't always the best but it was all that she could give. I don't know what else to say honestly, but I will say that she was a good mom and I'm scared to let her go but I know it's coming.
As of this moment she hasn't passed but her time is really close and I need help to raise money to pay for her funeral and expenses and anything else that anyone is willing to offer to help so that way I can give her the funeral that she needs. The amount listed is the bare minimum that I need in order to give her a funeral. So if you have the ability to help even if a tiny bit, I would really appreciate every last thing you can do.
Thank you all so much
Update: 8.22.25
She is experiencing seizures and struggling to maintain blood pressure now. She having her eyes opened randomly still with no reaction or tracking as the body reacts to involuntary movement. Life support will be suspended on Tuesday morning instead of Monday. It is only a matter of time before she passes entirely. Even though I don't want her to leave. Thank you all for the support so far.
Please forgive her appearance, it is very heart breaking.
