My name is Karen Beckwith and I have exciting news! I have been offered an Artist’s Residency at Texture Printmaking Studio in Taiwan this fall. On a previous residency I was able to able to nurse this "Little One" kitty on to a healthy life.
Since 2016 I have been invited twice to Taiwan. In 2016 I was the first Artist in Residence to represent Zygote Press in their exchange program with Bamboo Curtain Studio.
In 2021 I was invited to participate in the Taoyuan International Printmaking Exhibition. Unfortunately, after spending three weeks in quarantine, this exhibition was postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak so I never got to see the show.
Through these trips I have met many printmakers and artists in Taiwan and created lasting connections. My partner, Juliann, and I hosted three groups of students from Taiwan over a three year period. I taught them a variety of printmaking techniques and she taught them all about Cleveland and it’s history. Due to COVID we were unable to host students for a while but I am planning to start this again. I will use this trip to establish new connections in southern Taiwan, where Texture Printmaking Studio is located. We had Pei, founder of Texture Printmaking Studio, stay with us last fall while she was in Cleveland for an Artist’s Residency at Zygote Press. This opened up the opportunity for me to return to Taiwan this fall.
Texture Printmaking Studio is covering some of the cost of my residency but I need your help to cover travel expenses, supplies, food and some housing costs. I had the money saved but due to some back issues and employment changes I could use a little help.
I will share my experiences vial social media as I go. Many of you who follow me already watched me at Bamboo Curtain and especially enjoyed watching what I ate during my time in quarantine in 2021.
Thank you for any help you can offer. I am grateful.
