Thank you seems so inadequate to convey the depth of sentiment that overcomes us when we think of all you acts of love and compassion through this difficult time when my liver decided to take a sabbatical.

The human body is a formidable instrument unique to its person both physically and spiritually. Each has its own melody and rhythm and is subject to its environment and fluctuation. My liver sustained an acute injury and I was hospitalized twice in less than a month for liver failure the most recent being at Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN. The occurrence evolved rather quickly and for a time it seemed too daunting. This type of injury is not the norm. However, its occurrence is on the rise due to the offhanded use of synthetic medication – including pharmaceuticals and supplements and how they can impact the human body and its functions. Please take heed and be diligent when caring for your body.

I am convinced that my continued recovery and the wellness of my family unit is a direct result of all your love and kindness and encouraging thoughts and prayers.

Please accept from the depths of our hearts our sincere gratitude to all that have so generously given of their love, time and resources to help fortify our bodies, minds and spirits during this uncertain and overwhelming time. Help Our Daughter Get Through Liver Surgery

Our daughter Kara is a 52-year-old mother of three beautiful girls and, to her great delight, a new grandmother. She is now facing the scariest moment in her life. Her liver has suddenly begun to shut down in a rare reaction to over-the-counter turmeric supplements, landing her in the hospital and barely able to raise her head. Her husband Robert has been spending all the time he can by her side but can’t miss any more work. Meanwhile, the news just keeps getting worse and worse.

She is now facing the prospect of a liver transplant, which means a huge expense and several months of Kara being unable to work. Additionally, Robert will need to take time from work to care for her. Kara and Robert live simply and rely on both their paychecks to manage their bills. Their co-pay for all this will be enormous, and there’s no way Robert can manage all the household expenses on his own, especially with all the time he will need to take off.
