Hello, my name is Kanisha. I’m a mother of two beautiful daughters, ages 6 and 10. We are Yupik and Navajo, and about five years ago, we moved from the Navajo Nation to Denver to give my girls better opportunities and a stable future. Over time, we worked hard to move from an apartment into a house rental, building a life step by step.
After missing about a month of work due to extreme fatigue and excessive bleeding, I finally went in for a check-up and was told emergency surgery was needed. Not knowing the severity of the situation, soon found out had cancer. We won't know what stage it's at until surgery on May 12th, and I’m facing a recovery period of 4–8 weeks, during which I won’t be able to work.
At the same time, my fiancé Norbert has been dealing with severe bilateral vestibular hypofunction for the past three years. He experiences vertigo and spinning episodes multiple times a week and has been medically advised not to drive, which has made maintaining steady work extremely difficult. He also suffered a spinal injury in 2023 that led to permanent disability, costing him his job. He has applied for SSDI and is currently waiting on the results of an appeal.
We’ve been doing everything we can to stay afloat, relying on our savings and the support of family, but we’ve reached a breaking point. Right now, we are facing an eviction and, with my upcoming surgery and recovery, are now facing even more uncertainty. I’m asking for help to keep a roof over our heads, cover medical expenses, and provide for my daughters during this incredibly difficult time.
Any support, whether it’s a donation or simply sharing our story, means more than I can express. Thank you for your time.
Kanisha
