My name is Betty Davis, and I am the mother of Kamrun Davis, who recently turned 9 years old on January 6th. On Sunday evening, between 5:10 and 5:30 PM, our family experienced a devastating and life-altering event. Kamrun and his brother, Zyion Davis, were walking ahead of us to the store. They reached an intersection first and stopped, as the traffic light was red. As my husband, Kerry Davis, and I approached, we called out to the boys to remain at the light, but they were unable to hear us. Without warning, a truck ran the red light and struck Kamrun, then fled the scene. My husband immediately ran to Kamrun, who initially stood up. Believing he was not seriously injured, my husband pursued the vehicle in an attempt to identify it. I reached Kamrun moments later, when he collapsed into my arms, crying in pain and telling me that his hip and leg hurt. That moment is one no parent should ever have to endure. Kamrun was rushed to the hospital, where we learned the extent of his injuries. By the grace of God, his life was spared, but he sustained two fractured pelvic bones and a fractured jaw. He now faces a lengthy recovery that includes ongoing medical treatment, follow-up appointments, and significant time away from normal childhood activities.
