My name is Jakiera Foster. I am starting this account with a very, very heavy heart. My 11-year-old daughter, Ka’Mari Johnson, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2021 at the age of 6. Both of our lives changed that year. Learning how diabetes works, doctor’s appointments, insulin injections 3-4 times a day, diet and activity changes, etc.

On 11/11/25, Ka’Mari went into DKA and suffered from a stroke due to high blood sugars. The stroke caused severe brain swelling, leaving Ka’Mari fighting in the ICU unresponsive and having to breathe from a ventilator. Doctors aren’t sure about Ka’Mari’s future as far as her mental state or physical ability due to the severity of her condition, and she has a long road of recovery ahead. Me, as her mom, plan to stay by her side the whole ride.

Ka’Mari has 7 siblings at home who I am unable to be with due to this situation, and I am unable to go back to work while she’s going through all of this plus being so far away from home. The holidays are approaching, and bills don’t stop. I appreciate anything donated to help relieve the stress and burden placed on me. Prayers are always accepted as well. Ka’Mari is a fighter, and she WILL make it through this. Please keep my baby in your prayers.
