My name is Kristi and my daughter is Kali. On August 28th, 2024, we found out she was almost 12 weeks pregnant. Immediately, we started prenatal care the next week. Everything seemed to be going fine until we went for her 20-week anatomy scan. That is when her doctor noticed something wasn't right. We were sent to the main hospital for some monitoring. It was then and there that we found out the amniotic fluid was low. They told us through a video chat with a specialist that there are many reasons for it. One reason, the main cause, is no kidney function or simply the absence of kidneys altogether. She was then referred to Maternal Fetal Medicine in Dallas. We went to that appointment with better imaging technology. They confirmed our worst fears. They could not see kidneys. Since she is so far in her pregnancy by this point, the best option was to continue without intervention. In choosing that route, it means multiple trips to Dallas at least once a month. That means time off work, gas and food during travel, and less income to go towards bills that will still be there waiting upon return each time. She now has to go every week until delivery. That's almost 200 miles one way. Each visit we go in with hope that something has changed. That for once, we could have some good news. With each visit, we leave with the realization that our Ryder may never come home with us. She will be scheduled for a c-section in the next few weeks. She will be in the hospital in Dallas for at least 5 days. If he survives birth, he will be put on dialysis if his lungs were able to develop enough to allow him to breathe. Then we have no idea how long the stay will be. The mental toll it has taken on all of us is tremendous. The baby's father's family has also felt the financial troubles since they are so involved, much appreciated, and have been the ones to drive us all down each visit. We are not ones to ask for money, but we are reaching a limit as you could imagine. Donations will go towards the cost of travel, food, lodging when the time comes, household bills, cellphones to keep in contact with all the doctors, and any unpaid medical expenses. We appreciate any and all help and prayers.
