~Many of you know at just 26 years old, Kalie is facing the unimaginable as she was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Given the severity of the diagnosis and aggressiveness of her cancer, she is preparing to begin chemotherapy. Kalie will be unable to continue her career as an essential health care worker for individuals with intellectual disabilities. She is someone who has always enjoyed helping others.

Kalie's Story

It all started with a lump. On June 28th, Kalie noticed a lump on her left breast while in the shower. Her PCP ordered an ultrasound. The ultrasound finding then led to a biopsy which confirmed on August 6th that Kalie had HER 2+, Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. After meeting with her oncology team she has undergone various tests and scans. As we are still waiting for results her oncologist can assume that she is stage 1B/2A. Kalie recently underwent an MRI which picked up two different areas that she will also need to have biopsied. With this specific cancer, Kalie will undergo chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and radiation therapy. During this time her body will be put into early menopause which impacts her reproductive system. She is meeting with fertility specialists and will need to undergo a procedure to retrieve and freeze her eggs.

Kalie has a long road ahead of her; her positivity still shines throughout this diagnosis.
