Support Kaleb's Healing Journey & the Precious Family

Dear family, friends, and community,

We are seeking support in Kaleb’s healing journey and his family’s related housing situation. Kaleb, who recently turned 11 years old, is a kind and creative boy with a beautiful heart and mind. Sadly, he has been very sick on and off since last summer. He was unable to attend school since Christmas and has been experiencing extreme fatigue, chronic headaches, nausea, weight loss, and more.

Lilah and Mike, his devoted and loving parents, have been doing everything in their power to get him healthy, seeing both traditional and natural health practitioners of all kinds with little to no answers. A big breakthrough came last month when they followed their intuition and did a mold toxicity test. It showed high levels of mold toxicity in Kaleb’s body. They moved out of their home that day. It came as quite a shock as their home showed no signs of mold whatsoever, but they were thankful to finally have an answer to explain Kaleb’s mysterious illness. Their 4-person family has been on quite the journey since. They have been living out of short-term rentals, patching together bouts of camping, staying with family, and moving around a lot which is disrupting, especially in an already stressful situation.

As it turns out the complexity of mold toxicity, treatment, and remediation on your home is an enormous undertaking. They are unable to use any of their belongings as they could compromise Kaleb’s health. When you are medically impacted by mold you become extremely sensitive to mold spores (mycotoxins). Mold is everywhere and most of us do not experience this kind of sensitivity, but for Kaleb any exposure at all is detrimental to his health and healing at this point. This means they have lost most of what they own on top of all the other stresses. They are also unable to stay in any homes that could have any mold at all (this mold would not bother other people but could make Kaleb sicker). So, there is a need to stay in brand new rentals. This has really limited their rental pool and increased expenses. They will be paying rent on top of their mortgage payments for the foreseeable future and insurance will not provide any support.

The medical system has not been able to provide any support since his diagnosis of mold toxicity; their only recommended course of action is to remove the person from the environment. After Kaleb and his family moved, he did improve some but has still been very sick. His family has spent thousands of dollars and will continue to visit natural health care providers that are the only practitioners that can help him move forward. Thankfully they have just found help from a practitioner that has treated hundreds of cases of mold toxicity with success.

Lastly, they will need to remediate their home. The testing alone has cost them thousands of dollars, and the remediation will be a huge undertaking. While we will not know the total cost until the remediation is done and the home is tested again and deemed clear and safe to live in, the estimation is anywhere from $50,000 - $100,000. Because of Kaleb’s medical sensitivity to mold, the family will also need to purchase all new furniture, mattresses, bedding, everything that cannot be ran through a washing machine sanitization process (as a family of four, this is an enormous undertaking in itself). Again, insurance will not help with any of these costs.

Lilah, Mike, Kaleb and Faydra are an incredibly beautiful, loving, and strong family. They show up consistently and wholeheartedly for those they love, for their communities, for humanity, and mother earth as a whole. They have shown enormous resilience through this, but it has been extremely taxing.

We are reaching out now to our extended community to rally together and help them get through this time.

Please consider donating, any and all financial contributions help, and please share widely.

With a heart full of gratitude, thank you,

Lilah, Mike, Kaleb and Faydra’s family.
