Yesterday, our dear friend Kalana Gayan was involved in a devastating accident that has left him in the ICU in CUH, Cork.

Heartbreakingly, this accident also took the life of Kalana's friend and work colleague, our hearts and prayers are with the family at this tragic time.

Kalana is currently awaiting urgent transfer to Dublin for complex spinal surgery.

Kalana is not just an incredible athlete , he is a cornerstone of the badminton community in Innishannon, Bandon, Cork and beyond. A fierce competitor, he has earned multiple All-Ireland medals and county championship titles, but more importantly, he is a friend to everyone who knows him. His kindness, positivity, and fighting spirit have always lifted those around him.

Doctors have told us that Kalana’s prognosis is extremely serious. Although surgery may offer some hope, the road to recovery will be very long. Despite this heartbreaking news, Kalana is continuing to fight with the same determination he has always shown on and off the court.

At this incredibly difficult time, Kalana’s wife is not in Ireland, and we are urgently trying to bring her here so she can be by his bedside to support him through surgery and recovery. Her presence will be vital for his emotional strength and long road ahead.
