Hi Everyone,
First, I'd like to thank you all for taking the time to read this, it means a lot to me. My name is Kaitlyn. As some of you know, I've always had a dream to experience a life outside of the US, and sadly, due to COVID-19, studying abroad was not in the cards. However, since graduating college, I have been taking every step to make my dreams a reality. I began to take a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course, and due to my love of the English language, reading, and writing, it's a no-brainer that I was quickly fascinated with wanting to teach.
Recently, I was hired to teach abroad in Japan for a year! I'm both excited and nervous for this new adventure that will completely remove me from my comfort zone and open my eyes to new experiences. This time, I won't just be visiting a foreign country, I'll be living and working there! This is where your support comes in: part of the challenge is having money to get there and live for two months before receiving my first paycheck. Teachers are paid once a month and they are paid the following month for the time they worked (example: if I work in January, I won't receive that paycheck until February).
Any money I raise will be used to set up my apartment, pay for food, travel expenses, and classroom materials. This is an exciting opportunity and a challenge that will test my boundaries as an English speaker and a creative thinker, offer me new opportunities, and test my comfort zone to its limit. For me, the joy of learning has no language barrier. Rather, it shows me different facets and mediums of human connection, something that is needed now more than ever.
Again, thank you for your love and support in this incredible experience!
-Kaitlyn
