Kaitlyn Colorusso’s world changed suddenly when she began experiencing severe abdominal pain. Rushed to the ER, doctors discovered her right ovary was enlarged and larger than her uterus, with an ultrasound revealing her fallopian tube was twisting inside her body. The medical team quickly decided on emergency surgery, initially believing it was a benign tumor. However, during the operation, it became clear that the situation was far more serious: the tumor was cancerous. Kaitlyn’s right ovary and fallopian tube were removed, and the tissue was sent to pathology. The results came back almost immediately, confirming a diagnosis of a very rare ovarian cancer called Dysergerminoma—a cancer so uncommon that doctors see only about one case per year.
Because this cancer is so rare, Kaitlyn now faces a long road of appointments with various specialists. The family is anxiously waiting for more test results to determine the stage of the cancer, a process that could take up to three weeks. Alongside this, Kaitlyn is also battling other health issues, including PCOS, which increases her risk for ovarian cancer. She is in the process of applying for aid, housing, and benefits, but the immediate need for support is urgent. After major surgery, Kaitlyn is weak and needs time to heal, making it impossible for her to work right now. Everyday expenses, medications, and the potential for costly chemotherapy treatments are a heavy burden for the family. If the cancer is found to be stage 2, chemotherapy will be necessary, and Kaitlyn will stay with her mother, Christine, for care and support.
We would greatly appreciate your support during this time—whether through prayers, donations, or words of encouragement. We will get through this together as a family, and are grateful for those who have taken the time to read Kaitlyn’s story. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to us as we help Kaitlyn on her road to recovery.
