Kaitlyn received a diagnosis of Chronic Intestinal Pseudo Obstruction and Chronic Dysmotility of the stomach and intestines in 2018. Her symptoms began when her youngest, Landon, was just 7 weeks old and worsened over time. She underwent approximately 8 surgeries in an attempt to resolve the issues, resulting in the loss of most of her insides. Despite the removal of her large intestine, which was hoped to resolve the issues, her small intestine was later affected. Living without a small intestine is not viable, and Kaitlyn was advised that she would have to manage this condition long-term. She experiences frequent flare-ups characterized by pain and severe vomiting. Kaitlyn is unable to eat and drink because it causes abdominal pain. Determined to find a solution, she extensively researched small intestinal transplants and discovered that the closest facility offering this procedure is in Chicago, IL. After persistent efforts with her insurance, she secured an appointment for consultation with Dr. Enrico Benedetti, a renowned specialist in small intestinal transplants. Following a successful evaluation, Kaitlyn is preparing for the transplant, hoping it will bring relief. The process will involve multiple trips to Chicago, leading to a loss of income as she cannot work during these visits. Moreover, her hospitalizations and emergency room visits have also impacted her financially. Support is being sought to ease the financial burden, cover the transplant expenses, and alleviate the stress of mounting bills. Despite the challenges, the goal is for Kaitlyn to regain her health, enjoy a normal life with her two sons, Carson and Landon, and savor the moments she truly deserves.
