Support Kaitlyn Filkins' Fight Against Aplastic Anemia

Donation protected
  • Kaitlyn Filkins is a beautiful soul, who was slated to begin her freshman year at Benedictine University and play softball—a lifelong dream. Unfortunately, Kaitlyn's life and dreams have been put on hold due to a rare blood disease called Aplastic Anemia.

This past spring, Kaitlyn was catching in a softball game and took a wild pitch to the arm, which caused a bruise. Bruising isn't uncommon for catchers, but this bruise didn't want to go away. This bruise turned out to be somewhat of a blessing in that it allowed doctors to catch on that Kaitlyn had Aplastic Anemia—an extremely rare blood disorder which required Kaitlyn to undergo a bone marrow transplant. Kaitlyn has a long road ahead, which will require her to be hospitalized for quite some time, and then once released, she will need to remain in isolation for months.

As you could imagine, this is a road that no one wants to travel with their child, but Keith, Joanna, and Joey are doing everything they can to keep Kaitlyn safe.

  • Any donations received will help the Filkins family offset any medical bills as well as help them financially while they need to take off work to be with Kaitlyn during her long road to recovery. Any little bit helps, so please consider donating to help this family who has been there for so many before them.
  • In addition, please come out to Buck's Pit Stop on Sunday, November 3rd from 1-6 for "Karing for Kaitlyn"—a benefit to support Kaitlyn and her family during her battle with Aplastic Anemia.
