My name is Erica Edwards, and I am creating this fundraiser for my sister, Kaitlyn Gates, and her children during the most heartbreaking time of her life.
My 4-year-old nephew, Kentrell Jacob Freeman, is currently in the ICU after suffering severe abuse at the hands of his father. Kaitlyn does not live with his father and trusted him during visitation, believing her child would be safe. Instead, her baby was seriously hurt, and his father allegedly lied, claiming Kentrell had fallen in the bathtub while my nephew was actually suffering from serious injuries.
By the time Kaitlyn learned the truth and got to the hospital, her son was in critical condition. He now has a swollen head, both eyes blackened, teeth knocked out, a fractured leg, and injuries requiring surgery on his hip. He cannot walk or use the bathroom on his own. This sweet little boy who loves cuddles and brings joy to everyone around him is now fighting to heal in a hospital bed.
Since this tragedy, Kaitlyn has not left her son’s side. She is unable to work while staying at the hospital during his recovery, yet she still has three other children depending on her. Bills, food, transportation, and daily responsibilities continue while she faces the emotional trauma of watching her child fight to recover.
This fundraiser is not about asking for handouts, it is about helping a mother stay strong for her children during a crisis no family could ever prepare for. Donations will go toward basic living expenses, caring for her other children, and allowing Kaitlyn to remain by Kentrell’s side without the added fear of financial hardship.
If you cannot donate, please share and keep Kentrell in your prayers. Every share helps give this little boy a voice and supports a family trying to heal from the unimaginable.
Thank you for your compassion and support.
