Hi, my name is Kaitlin — and asking for help isn’t something I take lightly.
On July 14th, I experienced multiple unresponsive episodes that led to two emergency room visits and a 3-day hospital stay. After discharge, I had to attend several follow-up appointments to begin uncovering the cause.
Just two weeks later, on July 30th, while biking on a local Grand Rapids trail, I was involved in a head-on collision with another cyclist who was riding on the wrong side. This led to another ER visit and a painful shoulder injury that I’m still recovering from.
As a result of both incidents, I’ve been out of work for over four weeks. Between healing, specialist appointments, and managing day-to-day pain, it’s been emotionally and financially overwhelming.
For over a decade, I’ve served this community — as a nurse, an EMT, and in creative outreach. My husband and I write and illustrate the Mental Matters for Kids series, helping children better understand their mental health. Giving back is in my nature — but right now, I’m the one who needs support.
Any funds raised will go directly toward medical bills, basic living expenses, and necessities while I recover and transition back to work.
If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing. Every little bit helps more than you know.
With gratitude,
Kaitlin
