Our family’s world changed overnight when Kaitlin was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (i16 CBF-AML). She begins aggressive treatment on September 22nd, and while we are grateful for a hopeful prognosis, the road ahead will be long and difficult. Hospital stays, chemotherapy, labs, transfusions, and frequent travel to and from the treatment center have quickly become their new reality. The emotional and physical toll on Kaitlin, Colton, Blair (11), Payton (4) and all of us is immense, and they are learning to take things one day at a time. On September 10th, hours after following up on some abnormal bloodwork, the doctor called and told Kaitlin to get to the ER right away. That’s when we got the news no family wants to hear. Though, through it all, God has been in the details—kind strangers, caring friends, and small miracles reminding us that we are not alone. Kaitlin is the heart of our family. She has always been deeply engaged with all of us, never missing Blair and Payton’s sporting events and making time to travel and connect with loved ones. Now, her world has narrowed to hospital rooms and treatment schedules, and we are doing everything we can to support her through this fight. While their employers have been supportive, the financial strain will be significant. They are facing mounting medical bills, hospital stays, labs, transfusions, and treatments not fully covered by insurance, as well as travel expenses to the treatment center and other unexpected needs that might pop up for Kaitlin’s care and for their family.
