Who am I?
I’m Kai (they/them), a non-binary, transmasc person looking to get top surgery this summer! I am a school bus driver, so this summer is the most optimal time to do the surgery.
- I have surgery scheduled for July 18th, 2025.
I live with my amazing fiancé and our four cats. They will be taking good care of me during my recovery.
I often struggle with asking for help, especially in financial cases, but this surgery will quite literally change my life for the better.
What is top surgery?
Gender-affirming double mastectomy. Basically, the removal of all, or most, of my breast tissue. Bye bye boobies!
- I have been tentatively quoted $17,305 for the surgery. This does not include things like anesthesia or taxes.
- After insurance, I’m looking at about $9,250 that I’m responsible for. So while this GoFundMe isn’t the entire amount, it would help me out tremendously!
How will your support help me?
Overall, it’ll drastically improve my life! This surgery will allow me to live as my most authentic self and will help me combat my gender dysphoria, and help improve both my physical health and mental health.
Currently, I wear a binder daily, which causes pain after a couple of hours. Admittedly, I wear the binder much longer than is recommended, but going out without one makes me extremely uncomfortable and makes everyday tasks difficult.
- These funds will go towards paying for the surgery, help cover living costs since I will be out of work for 4-6 weeks (rent, food, gas, etc.), and for recovery items post-surgery.
