Support Kai's Dream: Indie Filmmaking Journey
Donation protected
Hello, I'm Kai—an aspiring filmmaker currently in my final year at Saddleback Community College, where I’m working toward an Associate’s degree in Film. My dream is to become an indie filmmaker and create movies that resonate deeply with audiences. However, I face a major hurdle: I simply can’t afford the essential equipment like grip and electric supplies, and sound equipment needed to bring my projects to life. With my current minimum-wage job and the costs of school, I’m struggling to afford even one piece of equipment so I can start building the portfolio necessary to kick-start my career for other positions like editing and on-set jobs. While I am currently finding things I can make from just a phone or what I have, I'd love to have more versatility. On Instagram, I'll be posting trailers and thumbnails under the name “DL|ENTERTAINMENT” until I launch a YouTube to share my creative journey.
I’m especially passionate about psychological horror, aiming to capture the real-life fears that we all experience, rather than relying solely on fantastical monsters. I also love bittersweet endings, as they are not that common. Most stories lean toward happy or tragic endings, but I love exploring the space in between. However, as I am experimenting with options and what I'm good at, I'll be telling all kinds of story genres! Being a storyteller is what I love.
Here’s a glimpse at some of the projects your support will help bring to life:
Here's some early things you may see from me that you are contributing to!
Hireath
In a liminal world, a young adult’s inner child searches for solace from childhood trauma—only to find that the very nostalgia meant to heal also imprisons them. This story is full of symbolism and an overall bittersweet tone.
If Only I Could’ve Done Things Differently
When fate offers a second chance, a person returns to their past to fix their mistakes and traumas so they can heal, only to realize that instead, they should reclaim the life they once knew—flaws, scars, and all—as the true path to self-acceptance.
My Good Days
Presented as found footage, this psychological horror follows a mentally ill young adult suffering from severe age regression and other disorders. The protagonist, whose attempt to capture his “good days” on camera, spirals into madness. This is one of the films with sensitive topics like severe bullying, emotional and physical abuse, and cringe moments that make you go 'Oh god why-' and turn away.
The Flippant and the Mimic
A nonchalant man lives with a dangerous mimic, but his lack of care puts him into silly situations. This film will be a comedy and the shortest of the list here.
There’s No Saints in the Dark
In a gritty film noir, after being resigned from his job, a troubled detective investigates a case linked to his fiancée's death—unwittingly unraveling secrets that hint at a devastating, hidden truth.
Couple’s Therapy
Through the narration of one partner, a toxic abusive relationship is laid bare—until a twist reveals an even darker truth about the two.
Soulbound
(Story by Anamary Tax-Marron, Script by Me, Kai Rempel)
A romance about love, loss, and the struggle for closure. After losing her boyfriend in a violent attack at a carnival, a grief-stricken woman spirals into delusion. As she struggles to accept that he passed, she comes face to face with his lingering ghost—forcing her to confront his death and find that final goodbye that reality didn't give them. This story is bittersweet and leaves the audience with a message of "it's ok to move on from grief."
Those are just some ideas in the works, and they will only be possible through you.
Every donation—whether $1, $20, or any amount—will directly help me secure the equipment I need and move closer to making films that matter.
