My name is Kaila, and after giving birth to my son Marlan in January, my life changed in ways I never expected. I had a high-risk pregnancy and began experiencing early contractions in December 2024. Despite informing my OBGYN and high-risk pregnancy doctor, I was told to wait until my due date. When I went into labor on January 8, Marlan was born the next day. During delivery, I started to feel extremely cold and, after giving birth, I suffered a severe hemorrhage. I lost three liters of blood in just thirty minutes, and my organs began to fail. I was placed on dialysis and had to relearn how to walk, talk, eat, and even breathe on my own.
This journey has been incredibly difficult for both me and my family. My husband has been my main support, but the financial strain, my postpartum depression, and early menopause have taken a toll on us. Most of his support system is in Jamaica, so we’ve faced many challenges on our own. I am not currently receiving ongoing medical care, but I am determined to get back on my feet.
I am raising funds to help us get out of debt, support my recovery, and allow me to start real estate classes. My hope is that by returning to school, I can improve my mental health, provide a better future for Marlan, and focus on rebuilding our lives. Any support will make a real difference for our family as we work toward a brighter, healthier future.
