Update 11/2025. As we approach the holiday season, it seems appropriate to share an update on Kaie’s journey. First, thank you for your prayers, kind words, visits, and contributions. Kaie has been overwhelmed with the kindness shown.

The state of her health continues to be a roller coaster ride. We have good days and really tough ones. We have not obtained approval yet for her device replacement which puts her in a painful and precarious position. She is back to a primarily liquid diet that definitely challenges her love of cooking for others. One of her favorite things to say is that she seldom sees someone sad or mad, when enjoying good food. The movement and vision in her left eye is improving and we continue to work on her challenges with double vision.

We are grateful for her improvements and her strength as she continues to fight every day for better health. We are ever so grateful for you and the role you play in this effort. May you and your family be blessed throughout this season of love and giving. Thank you.

My name is Robin, and I am sharing this story on behalf of my sister, Kaie. “Pride goes before…a fall,” Proverbs 16:18 NIV. This verse at this time reminds me to not feel ashamed to reach out to others for help.

Since birth, my sister has faced numerous health challenges involving countless surgeries, treatments, medications, and lengthy hospitalizations. Please allow me to share just a few of these battles. At birth, she was diagnosed with Hirschsprung’s disease requiring multiple corrective surgeries including a colostomy (stoma). Repeat corrective procedures have been necessary over the years. Kaie has endured 31 surgical procedures to date. She also suffers from severe osteoporosis and has been advised that she has the skeletal strength of a 90-year-old woman putting her at constant risk for fractures. She has experienced over 40 fractures in her lifetime. As an insulin-dependent diabetic, she has gone from multiple daily injections to the use of an insulin pump to manage her blood glucose. The combination of these health conditions, along with others not described in detail, have not only adversely impacted her skeletal and digestive systems, but also her quality of life.

Kaie has always been an independent, fiery, hardworking person. She has a fighting spirit, smiles through the pain, and still reminds everyone that “tomorrow will be better”. As THE Ohio State University's biggest football fan, you can find her wearing traditional OSU scarlet and grey and cheering "GO BUCKS" no matter how she feels physically. She started working at age 14 and had not planned on stopping anytime soon; however, in November 2024, she lost her job, and a downward spiral began. A simple fall resulted in dislocating her hip, fracturing her pelvis, and suffering a stroke which proved to be more than any of us could have imagined. Always the first to come to the aid of others whenever needed, she now needs the help that she has so often given to others.

For me, it has been heartbreaking, knowing the agonizing pain she experiences daily leaving her unable to do many of the things she so loves. It is very hurtful watching her struggle to pay for the fifteen medications she needs to survive. Even more hurtful is knowing that she sometimes goes without some of these meds when resources are low. The cost for her COBRA premiums, doctor’s visits, medications, as well as physical and occupational therapies have depleted her savings. We as her family help as much as we can financially and with daily errands and chores but fall short of the need. Through this fundraiser, we are hoping to help lighten the load.
