Support Kai Bear’s Journey to AAC Summer Camp!
Peace Family, Friends, and Community,
I hope this message finds you well. As Kai Bear’s mom and his biggest advocate, I’m reaching out to share a very special opportunity for my amazing son—and to ask for your support.
Kai is an autistic, non-speaking, brilliant kiddo who lights up every room with his energy and spirit. He uses an AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) device to express himself and connect with the world. Watching him navigate life with resilience and creativity has been one of the greatest honors of my life.
This summer, Kai has been invited to attend a life-changing AAC Summer Camp in Philadelphia, PA, from July 29 to August 1, 2025. This camp is designed specifically for children, adults, and families who use AAC devices as their main form of communication. It’s a rare and incredible space where Kai can meet peers who communicate just like he does—where he can learn, grow, and simply be himself in a community that understands him.
Why We’re Asking for Help:
The cost of the camp alone is $2,000, not including travel, lodging, and other related expenses. Unfortunately, at this time, there are no scholarships available to help offset the cost. We’re hoping to raise funds by May 31, 2025, to ensure Kai can attend and enjoy this opportunity without limitations. Every dollar brings us closer to giving Kai this unforgettable experience. If you know Kai, you know just how much he deserves this opportunity to shine.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading, sharing, and supporting in any way you can. Whether it’s a donation or simply spreading the word, it means the world to us.
With love and gratitude,
Nailah Eshe Lula Mae
(Kai’s Mom, Voice, and Biggest Cheerleader)
Kai’s Beading for a Cause
Lately, Kai has discovered a new passion—beading! (Just like his mama!) He absolutely loves getting creative with patterns, colors, and textures. Whether it’s morning, noon, or night, you’ll likely find him happily stringing beads wherever he goes.
To say a big, heartfelt thank you to everyone who donates to support Kai’s AAC summer camp fund, Kai and I will be making a special bracelet for each donor. It’s a small way for us to share a piece of his joy—and our gratitude—with you.
Thank you for cheering him on and helping him grow in the most beautiful ways.
What is an AAC Device?
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) device is a tool that helps individuals, especially non-verbal children, communicate. These devices can range from simple picture boards to sophisticated speech-generating devices that allow users to express their thoughts, needs, and emotions.
Importance of AAC Devices for Non-Verbal Children
Enhanced Communication: AAC devices enable non-verbal children to communicate effectively with family, peers, and educators, allowing them to express their wants and needs.
Increased Independence: With the ability to communicate, children can make choices and participate in activities, fostering a sense of autonomy.
Social Interaction: AAC devices help children build connections with others, promoting social skills and friendships.
Academic Participation: These tools can support learning in educational settings, allowing children to engage in discussions and activities alongside their peers.
Emotional Expression: AAC devices provide a means for children to express their feelings, reducing frustration and enhancing overall well-being.
