What started off as an incident and injury during a Rover stay with a sitter who lacked integrity to tell me the truth of what happened, was followed by months of vet visits for different opinions and chiropractor care to rehab a shoulder injury. Kaia began having a slight limp when I picked her up from her stay, which was initially ruled out as soft tissue damage and she was sent home on meds and told to rest. Her limp progressively got worst and led to her knuckling and dragging her front limb. We tried cold laser therapy with the vet, chiropractor visits and taping to improve mobility and function, but more recently her condition has grown worst.
I was referred to an orthopedic surgeon who recommended an MRI. While looking at her initial injury, he found something much more concerning. A sheath tumor, which has infiltrated her spine, and is pressing on her nerves and nerve roots. This is causing her to lose balance, and walking on hard wood floors or slippery surfaces has become a fear of hers as she often falls on her face or side. I was told by the surgeon it is inoperable. At this point the injury initially sustained has taken a back seat to the more important and pressing concern. The only avenue going forward is to be referred to a radiology oncologist to which Kaia will begin radiation therapy this week in hopes I can extend her life and give her back some quality of life again, and the function of her legs. Kaia hasn’t given up on herself and she is my 1st baby and soul dog. I will exhaust all efforts I can to try and save her. She has been through so many seasons of life with me and more recently made the move from NY to FL with me 2 years ago. She is my only family here.
Thank you for anything you’re able to contribute to help her cause and care, or even just resharing her story. While I have pet insurance, I am reaching my policy limit and max, and I need the help. Kaia is the sweetest girl and she has saved my life, so if I can save hers now, it would be an honor.
