Our grandson, Kai Michael Bowen, was born on November 13. We anticipated he would have some health challenges, but we didn't know to what extent they would be.

He has since been diagnosed with Pierre Robin Sequence, which is often characterized by an underdeveloped lower chin, a high large cleft palate, and a larger tongue that obstructs the airway.

Kai has all of these and will need extensive medical intervention and surgeries likely for many years of his young life. Thankfully, he is stable, and we think he's absolutely perfect! But nothing is scarier than watching your grandbaby not being able to breathe, so it's been a lot of stress and worry for all of us.

We appreciate all the support as we continue to learn more about Kai's treatment plan. It's required a lot of back-and-forth visits to Seattle, time off work, hotel rooms, changes in plans, etc. We are grateful to everyone who has provided support along the way! Right now, we are looking at potentially a couple of months in the Seattle Children's NICU. Not knowing for sure is difficult. We very much appreciate all the support and will provide updates on Kai's journey!
