Help Kael Blaze the Trail for Special Needs Education — Open Doors Program

My name is Amalia, and I’m reaching out today not just as a mother, but as an advocate for my son Kael — and for every child like him who deserves a fair, supportive, and accessible education.
Kael is a bright, determined, and incredible child who happens to have special needs. This year, Kael has the unique opportunity to be the very first student at his school to participate in the Open Doors educational program — a specialized curriculum designed to meet the unique needs of students like him. But because Kael is the first, there is no funding in place yet. The door is still closed — but we’re ready to open it.
To bring Open Doors to his school, we need to hire and pay for a dedicated ParaProfessional (ParaPro).
The total cost for a ParaPro for one school year is between $23,000 to $27,000. We’ve applied for the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship, which could provide up to $10,000 towards this cost — but that still leaves us with a significant gap of approximately $10,000 for us be able to fund the bridge over that gap.
I am permanently and medically disabled, receiving a small SSDI stipend, most of which goes directly toward my life-sustaining IVIG treatments. My husband, William, is a disabled Marine Veteran. We live on a very limited, fixed income and do our best to met Kael’s needs. It has taken a great deal of humility and courage for me to admit that I cannot do this alone. But this is bigger than me, and it’s even bigger than Kael.
This is about blazing a trail.
In order to bring Open Doors to more schools, someone has to be first. Someone has to fight to prove the need, demonstrate the impact, and show the funding authorities why these programs are crucial. We are that family. Kael is that student.
By helping us now, you’re not just helping Kael — you’re helping future families who won’t have to struggle as hard to access the education their children deserve. You’re helping to kick open a door that should have been open long ago.
Your donation will:
* Help cover the cost of a ParaProfessional for Kael’s school year.
* Help establish a precedent that can make it easier for other children to access Open Doors in the future.
* Show the school system and district that there is real need for this funding so that families are not forced to shoulder the financial burden just to access appropriate education.
* Directly impact a child’s chance to thrive, grow, and learn in an environment suited to his needs.
Every dollar counts. Every share of this campaign helps. Every word of encouragement keeps us going.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for standing with us. Thank you for helping us blaze the trail.

With deepest gratitude,
Amalia, William, Kael & Aeris
