Hey family,
My name is Onyekachi and I am raising funds to care for my needs as I fully recover from a traumatic injury to my right eye. A carbonated glass bottle in my refrigerator fell, exploded, lacerated my cornea, cutting it at full thickness and damaging my lens and retina. The resulting injury caused my globe to rupture and deflate, releasing aqueous fluid mixed with blood.

I received emergent surgery given the severity of the damages sustained and require very close follow ups with ophthalmology, cornea and retinal specialists to continue to manage my ongoing eye condition. I require frequent eyedrops, medications for pain management and therapy for my mental health. As I undergo weekly care for the months ahead, I will need a few surgeries to remove scar tissue, address any damages to the retina, transplant a new cornea, and replace the lens.
It is too early to say if I will regain meaningful vision. It is the doctor’s medical recommendation that I be excused from work during my recovery as I continue to undergo further care. This healing process may take at least a year. In that time, I am raising $33,000 to support my medical expenses, housing, food, transportation, self-care, mental health therapy and business needs.

As a queer Igbo person and entrepreneur, living in Oakland has been deeply healing for me. I’ve had the privilege of being part of a community of people who affirm my nature and show up to care and support me. I see these funds serving as a resource to help me I recover with ease and support the relaunch of my business, QINGKACHI LLC. I appreciate all your donations as I undergo this transformative life experience. My heart is filled with gratitude for the abundance of love that I have received so far. Thank you. I hope you can share my story with your community.
All my love,
QINGKACHI (made with divine love)
