Hi, my name is Riaya. My little sister, Juwairiyyah, has recently undergone an unexpected emergency liver transplant.

Initially, she was feeling very nauseous and was admitted to CHOP. They said she would need her gallbladder removed, but in a few days, we were told she had acute liver failure.

The doctors did not know why her liver was failing, but they said she would need to receive dialysis immediately. After being sedated and prepped for the catheter, she was transferred to UPenn Hospital because her case became too severe.

Her mental state began to deteriorate from the toxins building up so fast and caused her brain to swell. This also caused seizures and tachycardia.

On November 5, they told us she only had 8-24 hours to live and was on the top of the transplant list. Thankfully, she was able to receive a new liver overnight and now is on the road to recovery.

Help my family cover medical expenses, her new diet restrictions, doctor visit transportation, and at-home care for Juwairiyyah as she recovers over these next 6-12 months.
