I’m an independent filmmaker who works with community nonprofits to bring rarely-seen queer/LGBTQ+ stories to festivals and local events. I reinvest all my income back into my projects, so I don’t have extra funds for emergencies. My stepfather, Paul Turner, passed away after a recent illness and stroke, and I need to travel from San Francisco to Huntsville, Alabama to support my mom, who will be alone after the funeral.

Paul was a giant in every sense—someone who cared deeply for his family and friends, and who was a rock for my mom and our whole family after my father passed away. His loss is incalculable, and I want to be there for my mom as she navigates this difficult time. The funds raised will cover my round-trip airfare, baggage fees, and transportation to and from the airports. They’ll also help me pay rent and utilities in San Francisco while I’m away and unable to work, so I can focus on supporting my mom. Any extra will go toward treating her to something special as we grieve together.
