While working on a customer’s boat, Justin was involved in a devastating explosion that left him with second degree burns over approximately 20% of his body. He was rushed by ambulance to a burn unit, where he is currently receiving specialized treatment and facing a long and painful recovery.

The man who left for work expecting a normal day is now lying in a hospital bed covered in bandages, enduring painful procedures, debridement and daily dressing changes. Tomorrow, we will learn whether his injuries will require surgery.

Watching the person you love suffer is a feeling I can’t fully put into words. Seeing Justin in so much pain, covered in burns, missing his eyebrows and eyelashes yet still trying to smile and stay strong for our family has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever experienced.

Justin is a devoted father, a loving fiancé and the provider for our family of six. He has spent years building his boat business, helping customers, supporting his family and showing up whenever someone needed him. He is the person people call when they need help, and now we find ourselves in the position of needing it too.

As a small business owner, Justin does not have workers’ compensation coverage and, unfortunately, he does not have health insurance. The next few weeks and months are filled with so many unknowns. Between his hospital stay, ongoing wound care, medical expenses and the loss of income while he recovers, our lives have been turned upside down.

Right now, we want to focus our energy on Justin’s healing, recovery and our family instead of worrying about the overwhelming financial burden caused by this accident.
