On Saturday, Jan 4th, Justin was in a sxs accident along with his fiancé, little brother, mom & dad. They all sustained injuries in the accident after being thrown from the sxs when it rolled down a hill. Out of everyone, Justin sustained the worst injuries and was taken to Citizens in Talledega where he was then life flighted to a UAB in Birmingham with a broken back. His L2 vertebrae was completely crushed and is set to have sprinkle surgery tomorrow, Jan 6th, to have rods and screws put in his back to stabilize the injury. The surgery will be roughly 4 hours with two surgical teams working on him. We’re unsure of the recovery time at this time but we believe he’ll need physical therapy after being released and anywhere from 6 months to a year before being back to somewhat normal. We’re unsure of a release date from the hospital right now but we’ll be contacting his employer to file FMLA & STD to try to cover some of his bills during this time. His medical bills are going to be stacking up due to him being life flighted to Birmingham and the extensive treatment needed. Justin is currently employed with Kubota, Sliced on Elm & recently started his own honey stand (The Jar’d Hive).
Anyone who knows my brother knows he’d give the shirt off his back to help a stranger, friend, family & anyone in between. He’s worked so hard on his recent business, buying a new car & helping to take care of our little brother. He’s not one to ask for help but this is one of those times where he needs a village. I’m so proud of who he’s become and I want to make sure he doesn’t have to worry about anything besides recovering and getting better.
We appreciate anyone who can help during this time & if you can’t, please share this link. Thank you all so much. Let’s be his village in his time of need.
