Support Justin Matthews: Our Life-Saving, Wildlife Hero

For decades, Justin Matthews has been the name our community turns to when an animal is in trouble. From injured owls and orphaned baby raccoons to stranded turtles, bobcats, and sandhill cranes — Justin has been there, rain or shine, day or night, to rescue and rehabilitate the wildlife of Manatee and Sarasota Counties.

He’s been rescuing animals for over 40 years, and many of us have called him personally when we’ve found a creature in need. Justin never hesitates, never asks whether you can afford to donate — he just shows up. His compassion, knowledge, and tireless commitment have made him a true hero for both our community and the animals who share it.

In addition to responding to countless rescue calls, Justin has also been a dedicated transporter for Wildlife Inc. in Bradenton — ensuring sick, injured, and orphaned animals make it safely to the beloved facility where they can receive the care they need.

Beyond his rescue work, Justin has also shared his passion and knowledge through wildlife presentations at local schools, inspiring children to understand and care for nature and all of its creatures. His talks have helped countless young people appreciate the importance of protecting wildlife and respecting the beautiful ecosystem we all share.

You can learn more about Justin’s work and the impact he’s made by visiting his website:

There, you can see photos, stories, and updates that show just how many lives — both animal and human — he’s touched throughout his decades of service.

But now, Justin needs our help.

The vehicle he relies on to respond to wildlife emergencies — to safely capture, transport, and deliver animals to care — has been repossessed. He needs $675 to get it back immediately. Without it, Justin simply can’t continue the work he’s dedicated his life to doing.

And there’s more — Justin is currently undergoing medical testing for possible Alzheimer’s disease. After a lifetime of giving everything he has to help others (human and animal alike), he’s facing uncertain health and financial challenges.

Let’s come together as the community he has served so selflessly. Let’s make sure Justin not only gets his rescue vehicle back, but has a cushion to continue helping our local wildlife without the constant fear of losing the tools he depends on.

Every dollar counts — whether it’s $5 or $500, your donation helps Justin get back on the road and continue saving the lives that make our Florida home so special.

If you can’t donate, please share Justin’s story. The more people who see this, the more likely we can make a lasting difference for a man who has made such a difference for so many.

Thank you for helping us rally around Justin Matthews — our community’s guardian for the wild.
