Sunday, January 11th 2026, a house fire in Wilburton left local father, Justin Cecil, in critical condition after ensuring his two children escaped their home engulfed in flames. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene shortly after the fire was reported. While they lost their home, belongings and pets, both children survived unharmed. Their father, Justin, however, suffered severe 3rd-degree burns. He was life-flighted to Hillcrest Main Burn unit ICU in Tulsa.

A neighbor who witnessed the event and Justin’s actions stated: "I want to commend him for his bravery to save his kids. Even with his burns, he stood under his daughter's window for her to climb out onto him; it peeled his entire back off and exposed raw skin. I am so sorry this happened and that they are facing something so tragic. It all happened so fast, but l am thanking God the kids and him are alive."

Justin was placed on a ventilator due to breathing issues from smoke inhalation and because of heavy sedation. He received two skin graph surgeries to severe burns on his chest, arms, hands, and back. They were taken from his legs. The other burns are receiving treatment. He is on dialysis because his kidneys, his body is retaining fluid, his lungs have been suctioned. He has a kidney, respiratory, and heart specialist. Recently, he was moved to the heart center. He is in a medically induced coma and he is on his stomach to help him breath better. His blood pressure has been fluctuating resulting in frequent medication changes. There have been many ongoing scares & concerns with him.
