Hello World, my name is Juniper Joseph and for as long as I can remember, I have loved Mother Earth and tried to stay as close to her as possible. My earliest and fondest memories of connecting with the earth began when I was a young child spending the summer either with my grandmother in her backyard garden or over at my great aunt's homestead, where my cousins and I would run barefoot through the woods, climbing trees, playing with woodland creatures, tending to farm animals, and spending nights on the porch watching the stars while listening to the rain sing us to sleep. These early childhood moments planted a seed of love within me for nature that has only grown stronger with time. As I grew older, this connection evolved into a profound respect and appreciation for the environment around me.
The lessons from my childhood have shaped my passions and guided my actions, leading me to delve into the world of medicinal plants, eventually leading me to study under herbalist Phyllis Light for two years. Transitioning to a vegan lifestyle in my early adulthood marked a 16-year personal journey. However, after giving birth to my daughter, something within me shifted. I felt a deep need for a different kind of nourishment that was missing from my current diet. Exploring my thoughts, I came to the realization that I had lost touch with the interconnected nature of life. To address this imbalance, I gradually explored reintroducing animal products into my diet. Incorporating nutrient-rich animal foods made me feel more grounded and enhanced my overall vitality. Becoming curious about the source and treatment of the meats I consumed, I became increasingly intrigued by the possibility of getting involved in the process. I delved into researching the methods used in raising and caring for animals. I began visiting local farms, engaging with farmers, and learning about humane and ethical practices in animal husbandry. I was particularly drawn to small-scale, regenerative farms where animals are treated with respect and care, and where the focus is on maintaining the health of both the land and the creatures that inhabit it. These visits were eye-opening; they reaffirmed my belief in the importance of knowing where our food comes from and the impact our choices have on the planet.
With renewed purpose, I decided to take an active role in sustainable farming practices. I worked at community gardens and local farms, gaining hands-on experience and deepening my understanding of the symbiotic relationships between plants, animals, and the land. This was the moment when I discovered my true calling and how I wanted to dedicate my time. Which explains why I am working to pursue my dream. This dream involves farming, working in harmony with the earth to practice regenerative agriculture as a poultry farmer. I dream of a farm that serves as a living example of how humanity can coexist with nature, fostering a symbiotic relationship that nurtures both the land and our communities.
My vision is to establish a small-scale regenerative poultry farm specializing in organic meat and eggs, develop a processing and packaging kitchen, provide a monthly subscription through a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), offer local pick-up and delivery services, eventually expand farm operations to care for other ruminant animals, plant fruiting trees and create an orchard, construct a greenhouse for gardening, maintain gardens on the property, sell products locally and ship to other states in the US, organize educational programs involving the community- especially youth, host local community groups and serve as a center for fostering community connections, and collaborate with other farmers to enhance opportunities for regenerative and biodynamic farming.
Community engagement is also a cornerstone of my vision. I want to create a farm that welcomes visitors, where families can come to learn about sustainable farming practices, and children can experience the joy of collecting eggs or feeding chickens. By fostering a deeper connection between people and their food sources, I hope to inspire a greater appreciation for farming and a commitment to supporting local agriculture.
To bring this dream to life, I seek support from like-minded individuals, who value environmental stewardship. Join me on the journey of learning and developing a regenerative poultry farm. If you resonate with my vision and wish to contribute, please consider donating to support my dream.
