Our daughter Junie was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes this past month at just 2 years old. She has been so strong and brave throughout this journey. My husband and I would love to get a service dog for Junie to help alert us to critical blood sugars. She does have a Dexcom to alert us, however there are times when the dexcom isn’t working, goes offline, when she accidentally closes the app, or wanders outside of range. It’s hard to get much sleep at night constantly wondering if we will get alerted. I recently went back to work and the extra peace of mind that a service dog would provide is invaluable. Junie isn’t old enough to recognize the signs of being low and a service dog will help alert us before her dexcom even registers she is low! If you know Junie, you know she loves dogs. Our beloved dog Jimi passed away right before Junie’s diagnosis. Junie still asks about him. After all the changes she has experienced at only two years old, we would love to offer her this companion to help keep her safe and to give us a little more peace of mind.

The cost of a service dog program is high and this has been a particularly hard season for our family financially. Theo lost his job and although he has recently obtained a new job, it came with a pay cut. We also have had increased medical expenses since Junie’s diagnosis. All that to say we wanted to reach out to “our village” in help to raise the funds for a service dog for Junie. We found some local non profits that help with the selection of a puppy and offer affordable training. 100% of our funding will go towards the training.
