Support Juliette's Medical Leave Transition
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Juliette Bates, and I'm a freshman at WashU!
I'm in a bit of an emergent situation where I need to take a medical leave of absence, but my family is not financially supporting me. I'm on full financial aid, so when I go on mLOA, I will lose money and access to housing, food, furnishings, a mattress, a bed, and utilities that WashU provides, like internet, water, electricity, laundry, and heating.
I will be taking the mLOA on Wednesday, April 2nd, and WashU requires me to move out within 72 hours. When the mLOA 72-hour period ends, I will lose swipe access to both my dorm and student ID, which includes meal points. I have a lease for an apartment here in St. Louis that now starts on April 1st, and I have to make sure I can pay for May rent, utilities, and food.
I'm applying and interviewing for jobs right now, but I will have to be sleeping on an air mattress until I can save up for a proper mattress and bed frame, along with all other furnishings. I'll have to figure out how to balance working as much as I can with getting treatment and managing my health. To be honest, I don't really know how I'm going to manage all of this while my health is so impaired. I also don't know how I'm going to move some of my large items (like a lamp and table) because I can't afford to rent a truck to transport them.
I know most of you are college students and none of us have a lucrative budget, but if you can afford to and want to help pitch in, I would be incredibly grateful! Any amount helps. However, of course, I want to make it crystal clear that there is no pressure at all to donate! (Of course, even if I sent this to you directly!)
I really appreciate all of the emotional support I've been given by the amazing people around me -- y'all have made this bearable, and I'm so, so lucky to have y'all. And thank you so much for reading and spending your time on this!! Feel free to share this with anyone who you think can help (but most importantly, no pressure).
Thank you!
Jules :)
(For those scanning from the drying rack, I promise to add a new one once I can afford it, and it will stay there!)
