Support Julie's Brain Surgery Recovery

As many of you know my sister-in-law, Julie, has been extremely unwell the past several months. Her symptoms started about 18 months ago and have progressively gotten worse, to the point where she has been mostly bed bound since June 2024.

Julie has been to specialists covering just about everything you could imagine, she's had more blood draws and tests than any person should have to endure, multiple imaging studies and several hospitalizations (including spending 11 days inpatient in July). Even after all of these appointments there was no definitive diagnosis or plan.

Last week, as part of a headache evaluation Julie had additional imaging which revealed a rapidly growing brain tumor. Her case as been described by her neurosurgeon as promising and full recovery is anticipated. However more about the tumor won't be known until the pathology comes back after surgery. We believe that surgery may be scheduled within the next two weeks.

We are all hopeful that this is sudden and unexpected brain surgery and subsequent rehab and recovery will give Julie the ability to return to her normal life that she's been missing out on for quite some time.

As with any major medical event it impacts more than just the patient. Bart and their boys, Ben and Jake, have also had to make adjustments to help Julie. Bart will be taking time away from work to care for Julie during her recovery, bring her to all her follow up appointments, PT, rehab or whatever it takes to get her back to 100%.

Although Bart and Julie have only recently shared their news many are already asking to help or somehow contribute in some small way. While they only request thoughts and prayers for complete healing, they are also extraordinarily grateful to all those who have so generously asked to show their love for the Nelson family. Monies donated will be used to help offset any medical expenses, time off from work, transportation, childcare, and other costs they may incur so that the full focus can be on Julie's recovery. Any contribution would make a world of difference to them during this difficult time.
