Dear Friends,

I’m reaching out today to share the cancer journey of my dear friend, Julie Weger, and to ask for your support. Julie’s battle with cancer began in 2022 when she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). After undergoing chemotherapy at the University of Chicago, she fought hard and reached remission in April 2023. Julie was determined to rebuild her life and regain her health, and she was doing just that when she went to her 1-year checkup in June 2024. This is when she learned the devastating news: her cancer had relapsed.

Despite limited options, Julie made the brave decision to undergo a bone marrow transplant in hopes that it would give her the longest, most sustainable path to recovery. On November 12, 2024, Julie checked into the University of Chicago hospital to begin this critical next chapter of her journey.

Julie is a fighter, and one of her many gifts is her world-class talent in darts. She’s been a member of multiple USA teams since 2000, representing her country at international events in Hong Kong (2017) and Spain (2018), and earning numerous accolades along the way. In 2022, she earned a spot on Team USA for the World Masters, a dream she had worked towards for years. Unfortunately, cancer intervened, and she had to put those dreams on hold. But Julie never gave up. She fought her way to remission and she began playing again. She received word early in 2024 that she was once again selected for the World Masters Team. Cancer had other plans. The cancer returned and Julie's dream was once again put on hold.

Now, as she recovers from her bone marrow transplant, Julie’s life is filled with medical appointments, medication, and endless uncertainties. She will soon be moving to a long-term stay apartment next to the hospital, but her journey remains physically, emotionally, and financially draining. Julie's income has decreased significantly, while her medical expenses continue to rise. As her immune system rebuilds, she cannot be around others, making this journey even more isolating.

Julie initially resisted the idea of fundraising, but recently she shared with me that even the strongest among us need help sometimes. Julie now humbly asks for your support in any way you can offer it, whether that’s through financial donations, prayers, or simply words of encouragement.

Julie needs help right now. Her savings are quickly dwindling, and with so many unknowns ahead, we can ease at least one of them: her financial burden. Your generosity will allow Julie to focus on her recovery and give her the support she needs.
