Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out on behalf of my dear friend Julie, who is just weeks away from welcoming her first baby into the world. Julie is currently 36 weeks pregnant and living abroad, where she has no access to insurance or paid time off. She and her husband, Sergen, have been doing everything they can to prepare for this moment, but they’ve hit a major financial roadblock.

After exhausting all options for international insurance, they were repeatedly told that coverage would only apply to a future pregnancy—not this one. Julie’s job does not offer maternity leave, and she can only afford to take four weeks off after the baby arrives, despite knowing she’ll need more time to heal and bond with her newborn.

Right now, the biggest stressor is covering the cost of giving birth in a private hospital, where she can receive the safest care from English-speaking doctors. Baby is still breech at 36 weeks, meaning Julie may need a C-section, which adds another layer of uncertainty. The financial strain is taking a toll, and with only a few weeks to go, she and Sergen need help.
