Support Julie in Replacing Her E-bike
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Julie.
My electric bike was recently stolen, and I’m reaching out because it wasn’t just a loss of transportation, it was the lifeline that kept me independent and mobile while I’ve been rebuilding my life. The bike wasn’t fancy. It was made up of essential parts I’d saved up for over time. It helped me get to medical appointments, care for my dog, stay mobile with a neurocardiovascular condition, and support both my physical and mental health.
Replacing just the basics will cost $5,000.
Many people encouraged me to start this GoFundMe. I hesitated at first, but they reminded me that even small contributions, even just a dollar from enough people, could help me get back on my feet. So here I am, reaching out with hope and gratitude.
What happened:
On July 4th, between 2:20 and 2:27 PM, my e-bike was stolen from 1650 Main Street while I was inside a store buying food for my dog. I was gone for less than 10 minutes. The bike was locked, but the thieves cut through the lock and took it in broad daylight
I have video footage of the theft. One person stayed back with their own bikes while the other walked around the side of the building, approached mine, deliberately cut the lock, stole my bike, and rode it back to where the first person was. It was surreal to watch later, seeing it unfold, while I was just a few steps away trying to take care of my dog.
How I got here:
I moved to Winnipeg from Ontario after facing some incredibly difficult circumstances. I had to leave a harmful environment behind, the stress and emotional toll were making my neurocardiovascular condition worse. When my dog was kicked, everything changed. He’s my baby, and protecting him meant protecting both of us. He had already survived a traumatic dog attack before, and seeing him hurt again made it painfully clear that we couldn’t stay. Leaving meant losing my home, my job, and what little savings I had left. All I had was my dog, my determination, and that bike. When I got to Winnipeg, I found work. But shortly after, I injured my leg and lost that job too. With limited options, I enrolled in school, working toward a future where I can support others through their own hardships, ideally in medicine or health care. At the same time, my chronic neurocardiovascular condition affects my stamina and mobility. Healing is slow, and access to proper care has been inconsistent and exhausting. On top of that, I recently lost a very close family member. And now, with my bike gone, I’ve lost one of the last pieces of independence I had.
I’ve filed a police report and done everything I can. I wouldn’t ask unless I truly needed help, but right now, I do. If you’re able to donate, even a little, it truly makes a difference. And if not, sharing this means more than you know.
⭐ Update:
I’m honestly overwhelmed, in the best way. Thank you so much to everyone who’s donated or shared this. Every message, every dollar, every act of kindness has reminded me that even during the hardest moments, I’m not alone.
This support is helping me regain mobility, hope, and the strength to keep moving forward. My heart is full. Thank you for believing in me and my little family.
